A-Z Executive and Leadership Coaching Series: D is for Discovery

A-Z

D is for Discovery. Many coaches (including me) offer a free Discovery Session/Call with potential clients, and some coaches (including me) refer to it as a Chemistry Session.

I prefer 'Chemistry' to 'Discovery' as chemistry is fundamentally about the properties of things, how they react and can change, and the energy that is released or absorbed when they change. Coaching is fundamentally about supporting a client to make a change, and a good coaching relationship creates and maintains energy (one of the many things I love about coaching!)

❓What does a Discovery/Chemistry Session with me involve?

πŸ—£ It is a one to one conversation.
πŸ• It lasts around 30 minutes.
🌐 Is online (using Zoom).
🀝 Building rapport (including sharing introductions and backgrounds) and confidence.
🎯 The client shares her/his desired benefits and intended outcomes of coaching.
πŸ‘₯ Identifying any other stakeholders in the coaching contract (for example a line manager or the organisational Human Resources Department).
πŸ”’ A brief outline of my code of conduct, including; confidentiality, professional boundaries, CPD and supervision, record keeping, and GDPR.
πŸ“… Discussing the number and length of coaching sessions, the cost, logistics, and any additional requirements.
βœ… And if we agree that we can effectively work together towards the client's goals, agreeing the next steps.
